Saffi Faye Hazelden. Howling at Heaven Productions.
It’s been said before, but it bears repeating: there is nothing - nay nothing - that infuriates freelancers more than being ignored when they try to claim the pay they are owed.
Deeply shit enough it is that a freelancer should have to ask, let alone beg, for the money they are owed but to expect them to plead, grovel and get no response to increasingly desperate emails is about as low as a Producer/Director/company can get.
So who is the latest of these lowest individuals?
Meet Saffi Faye Hazelden, a self-described “Creative” (and also Model, Actress, Director and Business owner). Many strings to her bow then, but not the important one of an ability to deal with people fairly or indeed how she would like to be treated herself.
In this case Saffi Faye recently shot a video for Perry Ripley, employing freelancers on the shoot to help her make it. Happily trousering cash into her own pocket after doing the work, Saffi-Faye then became very elusive when it came to settling the invoices of at least one freelancer. And then even more elusive when increasingly desperate attempts were made to contact her to find out when they would ever be paid.
And it seems this is not the first time that Saffi has pulled this stunt, content as she is to leave payment to some future mañana. In this case it seems that is a mañana that never comes.
If anyone should find themselves in the position of being offered work by this particular individual, you would be well advised to get payment in advance. And if you should manage to achieve that, feel free not to turn up for the shoot and pass your payment on to this particular freelancer who was stiffed on this job. The Watercooler would be very happy to pass the money on if you do.
