Oscar Reed. Ian Brenchley. Vertigo Live.
A large number of freelancers have been in touch about a company called Vertigo Live, which is holding out on paying them for the work they did many months ago on “Christina in Paris”.
The company, run by Oscar Reed and Ian Brenchley claims to “redefine the live music experience” but their iconoclastic desires seem only to involve a redefinition of the employer/worker relationship, now being a simple matter of: you do the work, they benefit from the work, you don’t get paid.
When invoices were presented to the company from August onwards, Reed and Brenchley commenced a steady stream of vague promises and half commitments before commencing a torrent of downright lies. Claims that invoices had been paid, sending “confirmation” that they had but nothing actually landing in freelancers’ accounts etc etc, behaviour which only created more financial distress in everyone’s lives.
Not that Reed or Brenchley give any kind of damn about that, happy to put off the grubby business of settling their debts for as long as they can, no matter how much destruction their behaviour causes in other people’s lives.
The lies continue to this day with no sign that these two will be meeting their commitments in time for Christmas - a time when all these freelancers have extra financial pressure on them. The company sails happily on however and no doubt these two owners are ensuring money still flows uninterrupted into their own bank accounts in the meantime.
If anyone has been left in the lurch by these two fraudsters, please feel free to get in touch as a group legal action might be the only way to force them to cough up.
